1st Day with Ami
Today was my day off… well sort of. I just had to go in for a few minutes, since the boys were out of town, to give a horse meds and lunge the horse quickly. 20 minutes tops.
Then I found out that the second day I have Ami… he’s due for shoes. Gotta meet the farrier at 9am. It’s a farrier I don’t know.
Ok, this may take an hour. Still no big deal. Still looking forward to my day off and perhaps taking a well deserved nap.
I get to the barn, pull out Ami and notice some blood on his leg. I sort of rub it off and look at his leg…. nothing. Um, ok. As I put him in cross ties, I notice more fresh blood on his leg. Hm. It’s coming from somewhere. Turns out the leg I’m looking at DOESN’T have the scrape. The blood I see is cast-off from the gaping hole in his OTHER leg.
Nice.
He had kicked the wall in his stall (apparently he does this as aggression to other horses over the wall) and gave himself a nice lack of SKIN over his hock. He was awesome for treatment (except the cold hosing. We didn’t get very far with that.). It’s bandaged and vet taped. He’s on stall rest.
Is this what owning a gelding is like? :-)
BOYS!
BTW, never got a nap.

he hasn’t decided what he is yet. We will decide together and then I’ll learn to ride whatever.
