Tuesday Caddie and Cook

By Crystal at 6:45 pm on June 27, 2006

So I got up at 6am this morning to go ride Cook.  She was very good, especially considering she had several days off.  I thought she would be fresh but she wasn’t.  We worked again for about 5-10 minutes on collection.  She is getting better and better.  The rest of the time we just relaxed and did the basics.  I haven’t jumped her in a while.   I’m really making an effort to save her hocks and legs.  I’m thinking of going to the MacNair’s intro dressagey test thingys and doing that with her.  anyway, I was pleased with her.

Caddie my cocker spaniel has been having hip problems.  She went to the vet today and of course it was gloom and doom.  So she is on meds and she’s got a condition that will only worsen.  Oh well.  She will be fine and if she isn’t, then she has had a good life.  No one can ever claim that dog isn’t loved.

That completely sucks, Crys. :( Does she have hip dysplasia? I hope she does all right on her meds!

Aw poor caddie! Hopefully she will get better with the meds. Lilly has really bad hip problems since all labs do, but I was thinking about putting her on glucosamine pills. I’ve been told that they work.

she has severe arthritis in her hips. She needs some help standing up right now. She was actually diagnosed like 3 years ago and they warned me then that it would get worse. so now it’s the getting worse part. I got some pain meds for her and I am hoping they help enough. my horse has arthritis problems as well and she is on glucosimine which Caddie will start on as well.

my mom has severe arthritis as well. It surrounds me.

So sad to read about Caddie I remember her visit to my home in CT and she was a good baby. Is there any type of new meds maybe that other people know about or maybe up on some doggie chat page? She is well loved and taken care of and certainly will be ok either way it goes.

Poor puppy. :-( Do you think it’s too far along that a bit of weight loss and exercise would help? I know that helps a lot of people. And horses tend to benefit from keeping moving too - keeps all the joints lubed up and active.

Hope she feels better soon. Give her a big hug.

Yes she is beyond weight loss… actually she has lost alot of weight already… shes’ gone from 38 to 24 pounds now. She may have lost too much due to muscle atrophy.

She is still going for short walks. Its’ mostly standing up that she has problems with and stairs and things like that.
