My beloved mare is not sound right now. I wouldnt’ say she was LAME, like as in ‘limping’ but she is definitely off. It shows in both canter leads and at the trot. I rode her and she was off. Mere watched her go around and believes it may be right hind. I plan on free lunging her to see if she is un-sound without the weight of a rider.

I was trying to wait for her to have a check up in September when it was time for Fall Shots. However, it has become an issue so I am going to make an appointment with our vet.

UPDATE: I free lunged her with Mere after work. She is un-sound free lunging (without me being on her….) She cantered around, and got very hyped up. Mere saw enough, so I held up her halter and called softly to her, saying whoa, come on… we’ll go in now. She walked over to me and I put her halter on. I love that mare. She was still breathing hard but she came right to me.

So Fernando will have to come out. :-(

After talking to Fernando, I will decide what the best option for Cook is. (For non horsey people, dont’ panic. Its’ not about putting her down… its’ about what level of treatment to do…).

I rode Miss in with Mere down in the ring in a mini-lesson. She was AWESOME. I had the best time! Man, that horse can jump! I was telling Mere that what I love is that she is so consistent. There is no jiggy to the jump, no am-I-gonna-go-or-not, just point and shoot. I used a different bit/bridle combo today and it was effective. I had no issue with pace today. I used Cook’s bridle (since it might be a while until I’m back on her) and I want to think that it brought us a bit of luck. Also it just felt GOOD using the reins that I use on Cook. Good karma or something.

Miss made up for my heartache with Cook. I just want Cook to be ok.
