Thursday
I got out to the barn too late to ride but that was ok. Cook has a hive thing going on under her tummy so I took the opportunity to 1) clean that crusty, nasty pus stuff off and 2) shed her out. She wasn’t very excited about having this done but she stood in the cross ties and didnt’ kill me so I consider it a success. I used an iodine / soap mix and it looked pretty good afterwards. I cleaned up her face too. She was pretty sweet for that part, she was just antsy during the scabby scrub part.
Anyway Mere said that she is still spending her days pacing instead of doing normal horsey activities like grazing, bonding, playing. :-( She won’t really attach to anyone but Tig and the baby and well… she can’t go out with them. (Tig might be overprotective of the baby and hurt Cook.. especially after Cook tries to pull a “Hand that Rocks the Cradle”.) I pulled some more splintery things out of Cook’s neck where she is pacing against the fence. Sigh. I dont’ know. Not sure what, if anything, I can do. At least, under saddle, she is listening and good. My only concern is that she seems stiff and I don’t want her to walk herself into hurting.
