Happy Halloween!

Quote of the Day: “I’m not bossy, I’m directive! I’m helping you”

______________________________________

Today during lunch, I went and rode. Emily had set up our back field with natural jumps. (For non horsey people, its just scary jumps made of various branches, logs, firewood, and generally un-inviting things). It’s different than riding in the safety of the ring and alot of horses aren’t keen on jumping out-of-the-ordinary obstacles.

I was trying to be cautious for 2 reasons - 1, although I did take Miss to the Moss Foundation, I don’t have alot of experience jumping ‘cross-country’ jumps and only one experience jumping with Miss over them. and 2, I had to go back to work and couldn’t afford to go back to work, mangled. or broken. or both.

People must be tired of me blogging about the awesome-ness of Miss or how much I like her. But indulge me one more time, my faithful readers (all 3 of you)….

It is a rare and special horse that has the heart that I feel on this mare. She is SMART, CONSISTENT, HARD WORKING, and KNOWS HER JOB.

Miss went over everything with confidence and ease, didn’t look at anything AT ALL.

Had fun.

Went after work and hopped on Cook bareback.  Walked her around, then scrubbed her legs and put her back in wraps.

Monday

By Crystal at 7:59 pm on October 30, 2006 | 1 Love Note

I have absolutely nothing of interest to blog about today.  Nothing.

I dropped by the barn to get my tack so I could clean tack during Prison Break… (didn’t even bring it home).

I checked on Cook’s legs.  Her front leg is taking a long time to heal from a cut she got in the pasture.  I furazone-sweat wrapped her legs tonight.  I know it might be over-doing it for a cut, but I don’t care.  It’s my horse.  I can smother her to death with over-protection as much as I want.
She also has a mark on the side of her hoof which is weird.  Might be a popped abscess.  She’s not lame or favoring so I’m not overly concerned.  However, it is noted enough that I will ask Loren the farrier what he thinks it is.
I looked at her today when I was leaving and the brown on her nose is very noticable right now.  Man, she’s cute.

Quote of the day: Meredith:  “What in the world did you do to that dog’s head?”

__________________________________________

So today didn’t exactly work out like I planned.

First off, I got like 2 hours of sleep cause an ex decided to be Chatty Cathy all night. I’m glutton for punishment. Seriously.

Second, I did alot of barn things today. I did accomplish alot but still. I needed a day of rest. Yesterdays’ post! Remember that? I was supposed to be a regular person today!

I’m a perfectionist and a control freak.

So here are my updates.

Ashley rode Cook and she was dern near sound. Wayyyy better than I have seen her go in the past 2 months. So she will have off tomorrow and we will see how she is this week. I asked Ashley to ride her again this week and see how she goes. The left lead was pretty good - no obvious blips. The right lead had 1 kick out and 1 crow hop but for the most part she went FORWARD.

On Thursday I rode Cook as I posted and we jumped some small jumps / did pole work just to do something different. I let her canter away from the jumps and she was sound then. I did not, however, canter her any distances cause she was going so well… that quite frankly I didn’t want to be disappointed.

I am praying that this is a sign of her recovering from whatever muscle / pain soreness / nerve I feel is her problem.

I pulled Cook’s mane today. Cute. :-)

Miss was hacked. She was good.

Tomorrow I’m off! No riding on Mondays! I need to go pull Missy’s mane and clip her. I need to organize all my horse stuff too. It’s everywhere!

Have a good week, everyone. And BTW, if you’re reading this and I asked you to write something for my scrapbook… um… get to it!

saturday! (AKA Beagle Bald Spot Day)

By Crystal at 7:20 pm on October 28, 2006 | Nobody loves me

today was a very yay day. I did the barn in the AM, went home for an hour to change into riding pants and put Birdie up (she goes with me to the barn at non-riding times). I then went back to the barn, did some stalls and helped get kids ready to go down to the ring.

I rode in with Kevin and Ashley. Fun. Miss was great. I have no complaints at all. She was just…. awesome. I am really getting used to her…. her gaits, the way she feels, etc. I am giddy after days like this, cause it was really alot of fun.

I am going to bed… and actually sleeping IN tomorrow. Who would have thunk it?!?! I am going to be a regular person tomorrow! going to sleep in… and have breakfast…. and then go out to the barn and just ride the girls.

I am sleeping IN.

Until at least 830! I am not getting out of bed before 830!

And i’m crating Birdie! I know! I’m a mean mom. But I need some sleep and rest and not some weird beagle waking me up at 4am cause she has to pee.

Speaking of Birdie, I have a funny. When we got back from the barn today, I felt her head and there were 2 bumps. Instantly I thought… TICKS! So I looked and picked and couldn’t tell! So I took her into the house, hooked up my clipers and shaved the spots to get the head of the ticks out.

Except it wasn’t a tick(s).

It was just a scab.

So my dog is bald on her head.

Cause her mom over-reacted to what she thought were ticks.

Hey, I said sorry!

it looks like minor brain surgery.

Thursday

By Crystal at 7:12 pm on October 26, 2006 | 2 Love Notes

So my bad mood has continued. I’m in the middle of a string of bad luck… I keep forgetting things, my washing machine is on the blink, just crappy stuff like that. Nothing to be committed to a mental institution over but enough to be REALLY annoying.

Who likes that Fergalicious song by Fergie?

Actually, me. But it’s one of those songs (ala hollaback Girl) that I think is catchy NOW… cause I have only heard it a few times…. Ask me again in a week. I bet I’m annoyed after MTV plays it out. She’s cute in that video tho. I want her figure.

The other song I’m liking is the Janet “So excited”. I like the hook.

Shelly wanted to know what were some of my sad songs that I made for Resa and I.

I can’t remember all of them while I’m here at home (CD at work) but here are the ones I remember.

“Waltz” by Julie Delpy - This was from Before Sunset.

Sample Sad Lyric: I don’t care what they say / I know what you meant for me that day / I just wanted another try / I just wanted another night / Even if it doesn’t seem quite right / You meant for me much more / Than anyone I’ve met before

Rating on the Sad-O-Meter (out of 5 horses): :blue :blue :blue :blue

“Hands Clean” by Alanis

Sample Sad Lyric: If it weren’t for your maturity none of this would have happened / If you weren’t so wise beyond your years I would’ve been able to control myself / If it weren’t for my attention you wouldn’t have been successful and / If it weren’t for me you would never have amounted to very much

Rating on the Sad-O-Meter (out of 5 horses): :blue :blue :blue :blue :blue

“Wild Horses” by Alicia Keys and Adam Levine

Sample Sad Lyric: I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie / I have my freedom but I don’t have much time / Faith has been broken, tears have been be cried / Let’s do some living before we die

Rating on the Sad-O-Meter (out of 5 horses): :blue :blue :blue

“Fidelity” by Regina Spektor

Sample Sad Lyric: suppose i never ever met you / suppose we never fell in love / suppose i never ever let you kiss me so sweet and so soft / suppose i never ever saw you / suppose you’d never ever called / suppose i kept on singing love songs just to break my own fall

Rating on the Sad-O-Meter (out of 5 horses): :blue :blue :blue :blue

“White Flag” by Dido

Sample Sad Lyric: I know I left too much mess and destruction / to come back again / And I caused nothing but trouble / I understand if you can’t talk to me again

Rating on the Sad-O-Meter (out of 5 horses): :blue :blue :blue :blue

“Against all Odds” by Phil Collins

Sample Sad Lyric:   So take a look at me now / ‘Cause there’s just an empty space / And you coming back to me is against the odds / And that’s what I’ve got to face

Rating on the Sad-O-Meter (out of 5 horses): :blue :blue :blue :blue

wed.

By Crystal at 6:50 pm on October 25, 2006 | 3 Love Notes

I’m a loser.  I didn’t ride cause I didn’t feel like it.  I don’t feel well.  I’m going to bed.  Meredith said that she thinks I’m getting sick.  I know that I am in an extremely bad mood.  I have been ill towards barnmates and to my boss.
This post is useless.

On another note, I made the saddest CD EVER on Earth.  I made Theresa a copy.  Ask her.  It really is depressing.   I titled it “Slit Your Wrists”.  Nice, huh?

MeMe (cause I’m bored) for Monday (Updated for Kat :-)

By Crystal at 5:14 pm on October 23, 2006 | 3 Love Notes

I got this from Shelly.

1. Explain what ended your last relationship?
It depends on what you define as ‘relationship’ and what you define as ‘ended’.

(My relationships never end. They just morph into something else… I become their friend …or their mother. I keep around ex boyfriends like most women keep shoes. In the back of the closet somewhere, pulled out only when you need them.)
2. When was the last time you shaved?
Yesterday. And I got to shave around all the sores and bruises on my legs. It’s pretty sad.

3. What were you doing this morning at 8 a.m.?
Walking into work
4. What were you doing 15 minutes ago?
Checking email.

5. Are you any good at math?
eh. depends on how motivated I am to concentrate.

(Yes, if I want to be)

6. Your prom night? what about?
out with cam. that’s a long story.

(We went to Olive Garden for dinner cause in 1993 that was the nicest place in Fayetteville, walked on a pipe in the woods, Cam got bitten by bugs and broke out in hives, I got powder spilled all over me… and the actual prom? crap. Oh! and I got to see my ex-boyfriend go with another girl… only to have that girl go home with someone else. So there was some sweet justice there.)

7. Do you have any famous ancestors?
Not that I know of.

8. Have you had to take a loan out for school?
Yes

9. Do you know the words to the song on your myspace profile?
I haven’t even figured out how to add a fricking song on there!

10. Last thing received in the mail?
bills

11. How many different beverages have you had today?
kool aid and IBC root beer

12. Do you ever leave messages on people’s answering machine?
Depends on the person. Most people know I’m not a talker on the phone…. so if I call, that means I want something or I have information. My 3 closest friends and brother…. . my name showing up on the caller ID is message enough to call me back.

(sometimes.)

13. Who did you lose your CONCERT virginity to?
?

14. Do you draw your name in the sand when you go to the beach?
Yes

(Yes I draw my name and hearts and random things to watch it get washed away)

15. What’s the most painful dental procedure you’ve had?
fillings.

16. What is out your back door?
woods

17. Any plans for Friday night?
Next Friday? Who knows. that’s too far away.

(I’m sure I will be at the barn, riding and then coming home cause honestly, what do I do EVERY Friday night?)

______________________________________________

I’m at home today cause I’m feeling under the weather. Riding would have made it worse. So I’m gonna over-eat, watch Wenty on PB, and go to bed! Happy Monday!

Sunday

By Crystal at 6:15 pm on October 22, 2006 | Nobody loves me

It’s not supposed to rain on Sundays cause that is my day to ride. It’s so poop. Ugh. I only have 2 days a week to ride without having that nuisance of time consumption called a JOB….

So it was rainy and sort of a little chilly. I did the barn in the AM but I still went back out in the afternoon cause I can’t stay away from checking on Cook.
Miss was going stir crazy in her stall since the horses were in cause of the rain. That oughta be fun to ride tomorrow! :bugeyes

I did go grocery shopping and my cupboards were SO bare, that I bought $75 worth of groceries… and they still look bare. I live like a college student…. right now I’m contemplating how bad cheez doodles and an IBC root beer is for dinner. It can’t be that bad since root beer is the healthy soda for you (according to a close friend of mine).

Have a good week, everyone, but especially Shel. May the fairies sprinkle a little extra “good day” dust upon ur head. :red
