lauren and I are supposed to show.  I was planning on taking cook to have an easy flat day.  I went out to just HOP on cook for 2 minutes… when I do.. she has a pretty nasty cut on her.  She apparently stepped on her own foot.  (her front heel has a 2 inch gash on it).  She was gimpy.  so i furazoned wrapped and she’s in standings.  I really hope she works out of it by saturday.  I really want good pictures….  :-P

le sigh.

on a brighter note… grey’s is new tonight.

The Equine Personality Test

By Crystal at 5:41 pm on April 18, 2007 | 2 Love Notes

I stole this from Lynda Polk’s blog… I put my answers about Cook and Miss in the parenthesis in bold.

1. If your horse had a motto, it would be:
a. Good things come to those who wait.
b. Eat my dust!  (cook)
c. Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.
d. So much mischief, so little time!
e. Damn the torpedos! Full speed ahead!  (miss)

2. If your horse could choose his profession, he’d be:
a. a school horse - he loves kids and isn’t into maximum exertion.
b. a polo pony - he’s hooked on the adrenaline rush!
c. a trail horse - he prefers communing with nature to show ring chaos.
d. a cutting horse or dressage star - he craves constant mental stimulation. (cook)
e. three-day eventing - there’s no jump too big or too scary!  (miss)

3. If your horse were human, he’d want to be:
a. a day care center worker.
b. a professional skydiver.
c. an accountant.
d. a scientific researcher.  (Cook)
e. the acknowledged ruler of the universe. (miss.  definitely)

4. In the pasture, your horse:
a. pretty much gets along with everyone.
b. never stops running the fence-line or stirring up trouble with the herd - and he has the battle scars to prove it.   (cook - runs the fence line constantly)
c. is at the bottom of the “pecking order” and stays at the fringes of the group.
d. is always trying to figure out a way to get the gate open and escape.
e. is the undisputed herd boss - nobody messes with him!  (Miss.  definite)

5. Out on a narrow trail, your horse comes face to face with a porcupine. He:
a. eyes it calmly, then gives it a respectful berth.  (Miss)
b. breaks the sound barrier, leaving that slow and scary creature far behind.
c. snorts and flies backwards, convinced it’s going to attack.  (cook)
d. stares challengingly until the porcupine retreats up a tree.
e. insists on checking it out up close - and ends up with a nose full of quills.

6. At a horse show, your horse:
a. is a reliable Steady Eddie, barely batting an eyelash at all the commotion.
b. is awash with sweat, has a case of the runs by the time he gets off the trailer, and needs an hour of lunging before he’s ready to focus on his job.
c. finds the warm-up ring traumatic, the crowds unsettling, and the loudspeaker positively terrifying.  (cook)
d. tips over his water bucket, unties his haynet, breaks his lead shank, and goes exploring at the neighboring trailers - or across the highway!  (miss - 4 broken halters and counting….)
e. plays to his audience, puffing up and strutting around like he’s Secretariat or something.

7. Your horse’s favorite place is:
a. anywhere he can have a quick snooze.
b. an open field with lots of galloping space. (cook and miss)
c. a nice, safe, closed-in, snug stall.
d. anyplace he can taste things he’s not supposed to eat, try things he’s not supposed to do, and knock over stuff he’s not supposed to touch.
e. the show ring, where he’s the center of attention and can display his innate superiority over other creatures (you included).

8. How does your horse feel about humans?
a. they’re good friends and he’s basically fond of them, especially when they have treats in their pockets.  (cook, except she doesn’t care about the treats.)
b. they get on his nerves a little - but then, everything does!
c. most of them are loud, scary, and behave like predators - but he’s used to you, so you’re okay (especially when you have treats in your pockets).
d. they’re not nearly as bright as they look.  (miss)
e. they’re a little beneath his dignity, but a necessary annoyance if he’s going to be able to showcase his talents properly for all the world to see.

9. When you get on your horse and give him a good squeeze with your legs, the response is:
a. a barely-perceptible increase in pace.
b. warp speed acceleration. (cook)
c. to freeze in his tracks - aaack, what was THAT?
d. three kinds of deliberate (you think) misinterpretations of your signal, none of which results in his going any faster.
e. pinning his ears and swishing his tail at the presumption that you’re calling the shots. (miss)

10. If your horse could be any legendary character in the world, he’d want to be:
a. Buddha.
b. The Flash.  (cook)
c. Piglet.
d. Agent 007.  (Miss)
e. Captain Kirk.

If you answered mostly a’s, your horse is the STRONG, SILENT TYPE. He’s the utterly unflappable, stalwart soul most of us should be lucky enough to have as our first horse. Physically, he’s probably a little on the chunky side - chances are, Quarter Horse or draft blood runs in his veins. He may not be a stunning beauty, and he’s seen younger days. He’s a little “dead-sided” and unresponsive; maybe he’s not the most exciting mount in the world for an experienced rider. But then again, he’s bombproof both on the trails and in the show ring, and he’s the guy you’d put your two-year-old daughter up on. The Strong, Silent Type is as reliable as the day is long, and doesn’t sweat the small stuff. And he’s as rare as hen’s teeth, so value him accordingly.

If you answered mostly b’s, your horse is a HOT HEAD. Sensitive, thin-skinned, and wired for sound. This is a horse that’s on Red Alert every moment of his life, and you’ve never, ever seen him tired. With such wildly firing nerve endings, this is emphatically NOT a horse for a beginner rider. He needs a quiet, tactful rider who can soothe and comfort him, and channel that vast reservoir of energy in a positive direction. Given the right kind of handling, the Hot Head can be a superior athlete and a thrill to ride - but he’s definitely not for everyone!  (Cook…  :-)

If you answered mostly c’s, your horse is SHRINKING VIOLET. Like the Hot Head, his nerve endings are perhaps firing a little too sharply - but unlike him, his instinctive reaction to every stimulus is to hide or flee. Five thousand years of domestication have failed to convince his kind that humans will protect him from the cougars that lurk behind every tree. With his prey animal instincts getting the better of him on a daily basis, he’s hesitant in any new situation, and seeks comfort in the familiar. He spooks when a breeze blows up his tail or a paper bag rattles. And a hose on the ground is definitely a 50-foot python. Sometimes the Shrinking Violet has suffered an abusive past that has made him timid, but some violets are born that way. This personality type can become a pleasant riding horse, but he requires patient, consistent handling, and lots of reassurance. Once he trusts in his owner, he’ll find the courage to do things he never thought he could.

If you answered mostly d’s, your horse is TOO CLEVER BY HALF (aka a Smartass)! With a horse that’s unusually intelligent, there’s never a dull moment. He’s the terrier of the horse world, and if he’s not provided with sufficient entertainment, he’ll find a way to entertain himself - sometimes not all that constructively! You’ll need to anticipate his low boredom threshold and keep providing him with new things to do and learn; otherwise, he’s likely to become sour. Low-stimulation activities won’t suit him as well as sports with lots of action and variety, like combined driving, eventing, cutting, or polocrosse. On the up-side, you’ll find he picks up new skills extremely quickly - but you’ll need to be a skilled and tactful rider so that you don’t inadvertently teach him bad habits! Many kids are exposed to this type of equine personality when they first learn to ride a pony - and there’s good reason for the old saying, “If you can ride a pony, you can ride anything.”

And if you answered mostly e’s, your horse is an ALPHA MALE (OR MARE). This bold, assertive personality can be like a bull in a china shop sometimes. His best defense is a good offense! He knows no fear, thinks there’s nothing he can’t tackle, and generally goes through life in a haze of ego. He can wade into any herd of horses and instantly be acknowledged as the boss without ever doing more than leveling a few dirty looks at his pasture-mates. For demanding, high-energy activities - particularly racing, show jumping, eventing, working cattle, or contact sports like polo - this kind of bravery and chutzpah can be a wonderful asset, but the Alpha can also be so arrogant that he ignores his rider’s input. You’ll have to earn his respect by requesting his cooperation, not demanding it - because he knows he outweighs you, big time!  (MISS - Um.  yeah.  didn’t need to take this quiz to find this out.)

tired.

By Crystal at 8:57 pm on | 1 Love Note

had a really hard day today.  I dont even wanna get into it, but I wasn’t in the mood for my life today.  Going to go to bed and try again tomorrow.

2 cute things.

1 - kitties are getting big.  I moved them tonight to a new area where they would have more room since they are 2 and a half weeks old now.

2 - I went to get Missy and she happily trotted up to me, without me even calling or going into the pasture.  she just saw me coming with a lead rope.  what is up wit that?  Like the past couple of weeks she has been -happy- to see me!  It touches me.  Who would have thought that Missy would like someone?  When I went to the gate, Cook also came up, even tho I only had time to ride Miss.  Fox also comes when I call him.  I know it’s sad but it feels good to be loved by 3.  :-)

makin’ a little funny..

By Crystal at 5:40 pm on April 16, 2007 | 2 Love Notes

I have been collecting quotes from my friends that have made me crackle. There might be one from YOU…. or about you… :-) Alot of these are inside jokes, so they prolly won’t be funny to anyone, except the people they involve.

“He has some serious, serious mental problems”….

“Watching her clean his (her horse’s) shealth was like watching some bad pay-per-view”.

“Of course u can’t sit hard! You don’t have any junk in your trunk!”

“I don’t think you woke up this morning and said “I’m really gonna screw this up”…

“Only ice hockey now. I don’t play roller (hockey) anymore. I got kicked out… Actually I don’t know if I got kicked out of the league or the rink…. I guess we’ll find out Saturday when I play for some charity for a paralyzed kid”.

“Thanks for calling me ’stupid’…… I’ll call you tomorrow IF I can remember your number”.

(After watching me fall off of Cook).. “Well look on the bright side, if you were in a class, it wouldn’t have been a refusal ’cause u both went over the jump”

“____ (name withheld) told me he went out with *him*, and next thing you know he woke up, it was 4am, didn’t know where he was and didn’t know where his car was… which is cool when you’re 23, but not like.. when… you’re 40.”

“I’m only letting you touch me, because you got fired today”.

“You’re so weird it scares me”

“You know nothing about the female reproductive system, do you? We don’t produce milk at will!”

“It tastes good, it gets you high… what’s not to like?!!?”

“I don’t care if he’s 50! 60! 80! … with a cane and wooden teeth… I’m still whupping his ass!”

“I’m not playing paintball with Scott. He’ll shoot me…. it doesn’t MATTER if he’s on my team. He’ll shoot me anyway.”

“Do I really have to break up with her?  Can’t I just stop calling her?  And change my number.  And move.?”

This AM, I went to support scott in his very first triathlon.  It was way shitty weather to swim, bike and run in… but he did really really well.  I’m way proud of him.

Here are my best shots of him and cook below.  Click to make them bigger.

Scott’s not a picture-smiler.  So I caught him while he was getting his timing leg thingy.

Here is him starting out on the bike.

Eric got Cook a sleezy for her birthday.  I love it.  She looks like Batman!  I really think I have the cutest mare in the whole world.  She is gorgeous here and her body looks just awesome.  Her weight is so good right now.

Here is the picture that I blogged about yesterday. I really love this picture of me (left) and Cam (right). Cam is beautiful!! I’m way happy how this turned out.

(My arm doesn’t even look THAT fat….. LOL… Theresa, Anitra and Eric know my ‘fat arm’ complex… I think my arms look fat in ALL pictures.)

sat morning

By Crystal at 6:30 am on | 3 Love Notes

I haven’t been blogging cause I have been resting while I am home.  It has taken alot of recovery time to get over me being sick.  It’s a lil bizarre cause I have really never been sick for literally TWO weeks.  It is getting to the point where it is HARD for me to remember a time of NOT feeling sick / tired.

I tried to hop on Missy yesterday and that lasted… hmm… 15 minutes!  She was awesome.  I had no issues with HER… but my breath was ridiculous.  I was seriously out of breath and lightheaded after just trotting around and cantering.  She was listening and great so I was like ‘You’re Done!”  Please take me to the barn…  otherwise, just leave my body here.  Lassie, get help!

Missy is in heat and extremely affectionate.  Even with me.   She has been a little sweetheart.  (as much as Miss can be).

On other news, Happy Birthday Cook!  I feel bad because I really didn’t do anything for it because I was sick, tired and have so much stuff going on.

I know.  I suck.

So I am gonna try and do something next weekend, when kathy and lauren can.  kathy is out of town in VA.

On other other news, we had a bad thunderstorm and it blew up my computer.  Ugh.  So I have to drop that off at the Computer Fix-It Store (also known as Scott’s house).

Camden sent me wedding pictures that the photographer took.  I normally hate all pictures of myself (unless Cook is in the picture because she makes everyone beautiful cause she’s so stinkin special) because I am UNPHOTOGENIC.  Don’t be fooled people.  I have to take 1000 pictures to get one that I like.

Anyway, the photographer took pictures of each individual bridesmaid with Cam (the bride).  and wow.  I’m shocked.  We are both really pretty.  It might be the best picture I have ever taken.  I’m like gonna copy that thing 200 times and hand that out to people …  show no other picture of me than this one!  (Although, I don’t know if I can ever look that good again - I was having a really awesome hair day.)

tues

By Crystal at 8:03 pm on April 10, 2007 | 1 Love Note

so I’m still battling the sickies. been having a tough time at night because I keep coughing and waking up. So tonight I took a cough syrup recommended to me called Delsym. had never heard of it. but it makes me laugh because it must be the king daddy of all cough meds cause I haven’t coughed once.

I think it must work by paralyzing my diaphragm.

I go back to the doctor tomorrow. My doctor today took a half day. How much did that suck?
